Your Training
Has A
Problem.
Find It.

Most runners train hard and plateau. Coach Glitch is a diagnostic system that finds what's actually breaking down — and tells you what to fix. Not a pace calculator. Not a generic plan. A diagnosis.

// The Methodology
The ASCEND Training System

Six principles that govern every Coach Glitch diagnosis and every training decision. Not rules to memorize. A framework that makes training legible.

A
Aerobic First
Base before speed. Always. Volume accumulation through time on feet, not pace.
S
Specificity
Grows toward race day. Early weeks are general. Final weeks are specific.
C
Calibrate
Paces recalibrate every 4–6 weeks. Fitness changes. Your zones should too.
E
Economy
Strides, hills, or speed work weekly. Running economy is non-negotiable.
N
Never Break
Strength, recovery, and down weeks are training. Not weakness. Not optional.
D
Data + Feel
Your watch and your body outrank your ambition. Both inputs matter.
Diagnostic Tools
The Tools

Not calculators. Tools that encode coaching judgment and tell you what to change — not just what the math says.

Build The Fire

A 10-part series on how real fitness gets built — and why most runners are doing it wrong. Base. Intensity. Recovery. Race day. In that order.

01
The Campfire
Two people. One fire. One still burning at midnight. You already know which one you've been.
Available
02
The Engine Room
There's a gauge in your chest most runners ignore. Zone 3 is where they live. It's the worst place to be.
Available
03
The Debt Collector
Nobody posts about the debt. But the debt is real. Your body runs a ledger and most runners are in the red.
Available
04
The Right Temperature
Threshold is a zone, not a pace. Most runners are either nowhere near it or way past it.

05
The Long Game
The long run isn't about distance. It's about what happens when the effort gets uncomfortable.

06
The Recovery Tax
You don't get fitter during the workout. Most runners skip the part where adaptation actually happens.

07
The Sharpening Stone
Speed work done wrong is expensive fatigue. Done right, it changes your ceiling.

08
The Fuel Line
The fire doesn't care how hard you trained if you let it run out of wood mid-race.

09
The Cracks
Fitness arrives faster than durability. Your tendons don't care how good your engine feels.

Don't Touch The Fire
You built it. Now comes the hardest part. Don't touch it.

// The Human Behind The System
Coach Ryan
Ryan Kelley · Creator, ASCEND Training System

Lifelong runner, former high school cross country and track coach, and someone who has spent years studying why training works when it actually works. Ryan ran cross country and track from middle school through high school, and since then has finished seven 50Ks and a 50-miler — plus multiple high-mileage years back to back. He knows what long-term progression, durability, and accumulated fatigue actually feel like from the inside.

He built Coach Glitch because he got tired of training advice that assumes the same inputs should produce the same result for every runner. The goal is simple: look at what you're actually doing, find where the system is breaking down, and give you a clear training decision — not another generic plan or a calculator that spits out numbers and calls it coaching.

Common Questions
What is Coach Glitch?

An AI running coach built on real methodology — Lydiard, Daniels, Seiler, Canova — and the training experience of someone who has actually run ultras. Sarcastic by design. Effective by architecture.

Is this a real coaching system or just a chatbot?

The ASCEND system behind Coach Glitch is a periodization framework built by a competitive distance runner and coach. The AI encodes coaching judgment — not just math. The diagnosis it returns is the same reasoning a coach would apply to the same inputs.

What happens after I run the audit?

Glitch identifies your primary training constraint, shows you the evidence it used, and gives you one action to take this week — before asking for anything. The full report with secondary findings and priority changes is delivered by email.

Do I need a lactate meter or Garmin data?

No. The tools use RPE, training history, and performance patterns. A meter improves precision if you have one. It is not required. The audit is designed around inputs any runner can answer accurately.

How is this different from a pace calculator?

A pace calculator takes a race result and outputs numbers. Coach Glitch takes your training pattern and outputs a diagnosis — what's limiting you, why, and what to change. The difference is the same as the difference between a thermometer and a doctor.

What is the ASCEND Training System?

ASCEND is the methodology that governs every Coach Glitch diagnosis. Six principles in order: Aerobic first, Specificity, Calibrate, Economy weekly, Never break, Data plus feel. Most runners are violating at least two of them. The audit tells you which ones.
